Zentangle with Fabric
Zentangle® Possibilities with Fabric
Originally Zentangle® was drawn on paper tiles in black and white. After publishing several books on Zentangle®, quilters and fabric artists began asking about the possibilities for using Zentangle® as inspiration in their fabric art. The "tangles' resemble quilting patterns and offer new and exciting fills for backgrounds to finish small decorative quilts (and large quilts) as well as innovative techniques to add to ATC's and postcards.

I was honored to gather a group of fabric artists and quilters whose work I admire to help create a really fabulous new book, Zentangle Fabric Arts, Quilting and Embroidery . In this book a talented team of fabric lovers share some wonderful projects as well as tips to get you started creating with fabric and tangles.

Tangle a Postcard by Jill Buckley
Jill Buckley (quiltrat.blogspot.com ) created these wonderful fabric postcards. Jill says she loves the fact that she can create these small works with a limited investment in time and materials.

Tangled Apron by Sandy Steen Bartholomew
Many of you know Sandy Steen Bartholomew CZT ( beezinkstudio.com ) from her fabulous book Totally Tangled . She made this apron for a Zentangle® class she taught at Art and Soul.

Crazy Patch by Ellyn Sheidlower
After a Zentangle® class with MaryAnn Scheblein-Dawson CZT ( paperplay-origami.com ), Ellyn Sheidlower was inspired to create this crazy quilt patch piece. The raw edges are hidden behind bias tape and border strips making for a very crisp, clean look.
See more of these wonderful projects in this YouTube video filmed while at the Quilt Market in Houston.
This week I am sharing a Zentangle inspired digital scrapbook layout done by Sandy Lewis. Sandy used a kit purchased from escapeandscrap , it's called Doodlicious by Julie Mead and Ruth Davis.

Zentangle of the week, enjoy and create!!

Suzanne: I subscribed to your blog about two months ago. I cannot thank you enough for the time you take to share all your fun, delicious, exciting ZT designs, personal artwork, and links to other artists. I get so much information and so many ideas that keep me creating. I got hooked on Zentangling last Spring. I'm now obsessed with doing zentangles every day and incorporating zentangle ideas into my other artwork. Thanks again. I hope we will someday meet. Joyce

Keeping people inspired to create is why I do what I do...I love creating and it has meant so much in my life it's nice to share with others who feel the same way. I hope to meet you someday as well. And really glad to hear you are hooked on zentangle...I agree it's addicting!

I've just been commissioned to create a quilt square...and after watching your video on quilting/zentangle I want to do this. I don't have time to receive the book.....please explain your process in a private email.....I would soooo appreciate it. Thanks kindly.

I will do that for you Marilyn, just took a look at your website...great llama pictures. Would love to see your finished square. Your zentangle crazy patchwork square will be a real hit. Please encourage your quilting buddies to think about zentangle for their pieces as well. Good luck!!

What a FABULOUS book! I got here via QuiltRat's blog (gorgeous) and would like to mention and link to this post from my podcast, if I may. You do such wonderful work. (I actually just got your Zentangle books 1, 2, & 3). Thank you so much for letting us know about your latest opus. My sister-in-law (the quilter of the family) will be thrilled.
Best,
Heather @ CraftLit.com (A Podcast for Crafters Who Love Books)

I'am having trouble finding a gray fabric pen for shading, can you help me?
Reply to this
I do have a couple of recommendations Frances....Tee Juice by Sharpie or Fabrico , both of these are excellent for fabric. I believe they carry gray.

Please, what do you use to hold fabric taught when drawing on it. Should I use a light weight interfacing. I don't want it to make the quilt too bulky!

Hi Karlee, I would suggest ironing the fabric to the shiny side of freezer paper...it should stiffen it up for you.

Yes, I have successfully painted, drawn and written calligraphy on cloth that has had interfacing ironed on the back.
