Colorful Quilt Patterns

Quick and easy quilting demonstrations from the Houston Quilt Festival on the Design Originals YouTube  channel.

For the LOVE of Quilts

Quilting is a time-honored tradition.  Many of us grew up snuggling under grandma or great grandmas handmade quilt.  Most of the these quilts were made from remnants of clothes worn by family members.  I am so happy tho see the continued growth in this art form.  The term "quilt artist" and "fabric artist" is long overdue.
EXCITING NEW patterns for Strips, Squares and Fat-Quarters are now available! You'll love all the color combinations and quick-piecing techniques. For this season I fell in love with new fabric collections from Timeless Treasures (Tonga Treat Batik Strip and Square collections) and from Hoffman California  (Bali Pop Batiks and Handpainted Fat-Quarter collections).
You might remember that I got to visit Bali, Indonesia 2 years ago. Ever since that trip, that resulted in the book Batiks Inspired by Bali , I have loved and valued every yard of Batik in my stash.
Check out a few of the NEW patterns below.

'Round and Round' pattern - Timeless Treasures batiks

Ask for these patterns at your local quilt shop. Many shops teach classes on my quick-piecing techniques that I use in the patterns.

'Tutti Fruitti' pattern - Hoffman California Handpainteds

If you love fabric you can't resist these vibrantly colored fabrics, they add so much excitement to this versatile quilt. This design is made with my popular '10-Minute Block' technique. Ask your local shop about classes for this speedy method.

'Fat-Quarter Colorways' pattern - Hoffman California Handpainteds

Try these projects in a variety of color combinations.  I would love to make the same pattern in a variety of colorways - maybe for Christmas next year I will make the quilt above in Red for Kristy, Blue for Todd, in Green for Steven, in Violet for Kelley, in Gold for Trey, and in Aqua for Lani. Wouldn't it be fun to open gifts and see the same quilt in a rainbow of colors!
Check out all the Fat-Quarter collections in Handpainted fabrics from Hoffman California... you'll love every one. Even a subtle shift in color will give a whole new look to your completed piece.

'Sunshine Tote Bag'  pattern - Great for Leftover Strips

Reusable tote bags are always useful.  I used leftover strips from my stash for this tote. Why not sew up your own fun and sunny tote to go everywhere with you.

Julie Mead, one of the designers of the digital scrapbook kit I featured last week directed me to another artist who is creating some beautiful scrapbook pages using Doodlicious.  I love this page called 'Flower Power' by Jan Walker.
Julie and  Ruth Davis are the creators of the Doodlicious scrapbook kit, you can see more of their work at their website. Julie credits Ruth with introducing her to Zentangle - they both had so much fun with it they decided to create a kit using the theme.

Zentangle of the week, enjoy and create!!
