Texas Indian Market and Southwest Showcase

I really look forward to attending the Indian Market held each year in Arlington, Texas every year the last weekend in March. It is an opportunity to meet some wonderful artisans, musicians and dancers. This year Brule, a Native American Musical Group, performed the stage show they perform daily in Branson, Missouri. It was a phenomenal show, with dancers in full regalia.

Buffalo Dancer.
The Buffalo Dancer was amazing, adopting the mannerisms of this majestic animal and adorning a buffalo hide he brought a buffalo to life with his performance.
This particular Indian Market is held each year in Texas and Colorado only, it hosts many tribes including members from the Brule tribe from the Dakotas, Blackfoot from Wyoming, Navajo from New Mexico and Huichol Indians in Mexico. I am particularly fond of the beadwork done by the Huichol and spoke with one of the artisans about his craft. He carries his beads with him everywhere he goes and even worked on pieces while on the bus to the Indian Market.

Wallace Ben, Navajo Sand Painter.
I was also fascinated by Wallace Ben's amazing Navajo sand paintings. They are the most fabulous sand paintings I have ever seen. He sprinkles sand from his fingertips, just a few grains at a time, using no tool other than his fingers to direct the sand. The designs are intricate, delicate, beautifully detailed and meaningful.
